Artist Profile - Haley James
We are so excited to introduce you to Haley James, the wonderful artist behind our Water Blessings heart. Haley was born and raised in Half Moon Bay, California, where she currently resides. A big congratulations to her for having just completed her bachelor’s degree at The Academy of Art University in San Francisco!
Haley also just started a new job as a Junior Copywriter at an advertising agency based out of San Francisco, and is absolutely loving it. Outside of work, Haley treasures the time she gets to spend with her friends and family. She can also frequently be found basking in the majestic beauty and serenity of the coastal landscape with her pup, Cami, whether it be at the beach or among the Redwoods.
Haley is deeply passionate about social justice, and really likes to attend rallies for the causes close to her heart. Every year, up until the recent shutdowns Haley would show up to the WAR SF (Women Against Rape San Francisco) march with bundles of homemade signs to pass out to her fellow community members.
Haley also dedicates a lot of time to her spiritual practices, where she strives to be in greater communion with the angelic realm, her heart and her higher self.
For Haley, creating art is more about the process than the final product. Most of her work is casual, free-handed drawing, either inspired by funny, fleeting thoughts or her heart’s connection with nature. Haley runs a collaborative Instagram page (@my.art.is.average) where she posts her silly, quick drawings and accepts submissions from other artists as well. She started the page in an effort to help people break away from the judgements that many people/artists impose on themselves.
“Creative expression shouldn’t be scary. People are always afraid to do anything on paper or in ink because they feel like it needs to be good and that just takes all the fun out of it.”
When we asked her why she chose to work with Planet Joy, her reply was centered around who we are and our mission as a company. As a social justice advocate, Haley recognizes how important it is to do business in a way that is in greater alignment with the Earth. As a person who chooses to live from her heart, the uplifting energy that we embody and advocate for at Planet Joy is a breath of fresh air for Haley.
